[TriLUG] getting and filtering news feeds

[mr-trilug via TriLUG]

I want to get news item feeds (RSS?) from several sites, but filtered to 
omit topics that do not interest me --- for my current objective, which 
is political news.

I have tried adding Bamboo to Thunderbird but have not found a way to 
filter it.

Do you have suggestions for sites or software (to run on/from ubuntu 
16.04) within browser, Thunderbird or stand-alone (which)?
