There is a small possibility of getting the source code. From a smaller
vendor years ago (with an older instrument), I was able to get there
source code. The current vendor is much more corporate, and is less
likely to do share their code. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. 

I did ask on my vendor's user group listserv about whether anyone had
successfully converted their rpms to debs.  Two replies were, in short,
no, dependency hell.  I can always try for myself.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I think setting that up would be
getting beyond my skill/comfort level.
