Get a (used) Dell Chromebook 13. I have been using it for the last 2
years. Now I've switched to the Chromebook Pixel due to needing the
pen input.

Pros:
- 1080p IPS screen
- Suspend/resume (on linux) always works
- Every hardware works
- Cheap (like $200 cheap on eBay)
- Relatively recent and fast CPU
- Backlit keyboard
- Good trackpad
- Aluminum build
- All standard ports.

Cons:
- You'll have to upgrade the SSD yourself (+50 USD for the M.2 42mm SSD)
- Can't upgrade the RAM
- To install Linux, you'll have to install the UEFI ROM yourself
(mrchromebox.tech)
- The speakers can rattle a bit on the loudest volume.

Caveats:
- You can disable the Intel ME with some determination.

No pressure, but if you need one, I can sell you the one that I'm have
been using with the SSD for $200 that I'm going to put up on eBay
anyway. That machine is of model 7310, has 8GB RAM, a i3-5005 or
something processor, and a 128GB SSD that I upgraded myself, and has
Intel ME neutralized. If you don't like it, just ship it back to me
within a month (I'm in CA now).

Cheers,
- Huan.
