[TriLUG] Laptop Question

I have been in management for a while (therefore tech chops have fallen to
the wayside).  But I have a old Lenovo G530 that I want to wipe clean of
Win 7 and put a Linux distro on for basic surfing, doc writing, maybe some
CD burning (yes, believe it or not), and just general stuff like that.  Any
suggestions on which flavor to use?

I was a big proponent for Ubuntu if that helps in your suggestions.
