[TriLUG] tar/cp/rsync question

I cannot remember or find the options(s) to "copy the file a link points 
to, not the symlink" for any of tar, cp -r, rsync in order to get a full 
copy of files that are spanning storage sites. Can somebody help me? In 
a major hurry. Thanks in advance.

example:

    dir a

    subdir b

    file a/b/x -> c/foo


I need to copy a and end up with x being a file with the contents of 
foo, NOT the symlink.
