Due to some of the Caveats from the other Responders (especially issues
with dot files), I do not take your approach. Instead, especially if I
have a large Hard Drive, I create a permanent Share Partition, which I name
"bighome". And then, I am consistent with the order of the user names that
I create, so that they have the same uid numbers. Bighome is heavily used!
If there is a reason to segregate the Partitions, I create directories on
bighome with the partition (or computer) names.
Good luck!
