Hello Everyone,
I thought it time to introduce myself and ask my question now. My name
is Rebecca Kahn. I have lurked in this group for a few years now. I
very much enjoy the knowledge base here. I for myself know very
little. My knowledge consists in owning old MacBook Pro's that I have
installed Linux on (Ubuntu). I am an older lady and I like to think of
myself as a self starter but I get myself into all kinds of trouble
with my computers all the time. I have no prior knowledge of Linux but
I love the concept and how it works. My daughter Sarah Kahn sent me
your list and told me the best way to learn is to jump in. Well, I am
a big chicken in that I do not completely trust myself. I hardly know
what I am doing at times. I have had Linux for about 3 years now. And
my daughter (UX engineer) has thrown me to the curb. Lol She wants me
to learn she says and so she is done helping me.
I have been very impressed with your group and all of its users and
their vast knowledge. I only wish I could learn to do more in my
situation. I am a very private person and like to keep my laptops
locked down as much as I know how. In the past, I had to deal with a
crazy online stalking situation, which thankfully is resolved now.
Well that led to me purchasing a computer that through no fault of my
own is a lemon and the company cannot and will not help me. I bought a
Librem 14. Is anyone here familiar with them? I have shipped it back
and forth this is the forth time now for an internal electrical issue
that they seem unable or unwilling to repair or replace. I was stalled
all throughout my warranty and now I must pay for what ever repairs I
require. To say that I am angry about it would be fruitless at this
point. I don't know that I have any recourse now.
Which leads me to my question. Would any of you have the knowledge or
the ability to go through it and manage a fix for it or possibly know
how to rebuild it so that it worked properly? It is supposed to be set
up for security and has a key and the os is very different. Pure OS.
The other problem I have is that because it shuts down from lack of
power I have no ability to get in to it to back it up. They claim that
many cards and components are removable but I would not know how. I
would be willing to work with anyone who has the knowledge to help me
and pay them if necessary. I don't have much I could pay but I am
willing.
Thanks for allowing me to express my needs here. I hope someone can
help. Rebecca
