[TriLUG] Above Gigabit Network

I think it's important to note that regular old Cat5E supports 5Gbe
(5GBASE-T) and 2.5Gbe (2.5GBASE-T) up to 100m.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2.5GBASE-T_and_5GBASE-T

>From my basic Googling, 2.5Gbe is much more common and much more affordable
than 5Gbe. Most 5Gbe seems to come on switches that also support 10Gbe,
whereas 2.5Gbe is available pretty commonly standalone.

This is an 8-port 2.5Gbe switch for $130 from TrendNet
https://www.amzn.com/dp/B08XWKF55C/

Here's the same thing from TP-Link for $140:

...and here's a 5-port 10GBE switch from TP-Link that is backward
compatible with 5Gbe, 2.5Gbe, 1Gbe and 100Mbps for $270
https://www.amzn.com/dp/B09CYNHL4S/

That's only 5 ports, but lets you use a 10Gb uplink with Cat6a and keep 5Gb
or 2.5Gb over existing Cat5E cabling.

Both of the 8-port switches also have 5-port versions for a bit less
money. Many of them also have PoE+ versions for only slightly more money
that can power an 802.11af or 802.11at WAP.

Let us know what you decide to do!
