Rofl, I was going to reach for my 15 or so for OS/2 (Yes I am that old
too).

I initially came to know about Linux through a Co-op at IBM, Erick Troan
(might have the spelling off there). Met him in 1993 when I moved to the
Triangle from up North on the IBM plan. He would have been 2nd gen IBM but
decided to join this new startup called Red Hat. He was all excited about
it and I can see why. It would take years before I came back to it as part
of the LTC (Linux Technology Center) at IBM.

In the time in between, I kept my eye on it and watched the SCO litigation
and was pulling heavily for SCO to go down. Talk about a beast that would
not die.

In 2017, I had the opportunity (read IBM retired my ass) to start a second
career and decided it was time to get serious (Not that my LTC time was not
serious, just not long enough) about my now serious interest in it. It
was during the gap between being at IBM and being at my new Employer that I
joined TriLUG. I really enjoyed the meetings at NC State. The pre meeting
talks with folks were always interesting and folks brought their problems
and helped others with answers. Then there was the meeting itself with
generally an very interesting topic and the have a job, need a job portion
of the meeting. I think it would be great to get us back in person
meetings but we really need to figure how to bootstrap that back and what
form best serves the community. I think there is still a very important
need for the group.

Bill
