[TriLUG] Phone calls

I have long had a Google Voice Number, in fact, I was an early adopter before it was called voice even and they still haven't started charging me. I have a phone number configured on three phones for business purposes. I am not pushing Google Voice in any manner. I actually always wanted to set up an Asterisk server, but I just never could justify the time and benefit. I still want to do it though. Maybe one day. I highly recommend anyone to give it a shot. I always like to bring as much services under my control rather than using the large providers.

Definitely a huge VOIP fan. Tying an ID to a piece of hardware is dumb.

I ripped the bandaid off and just told people not to use my regional
number instead of porting it. I still have the plan for it but I only use
it for data. I check texts to it with mmcli occasionally.

I already had a reputation for being hard to get ahold of outside email
so it wasn't a problem for me. I think just getting rid of my old public
number really got rid of the spam calls. Now the only thing I get are
occasional recruiters.
