Howdy folks... I think that's my cue. I served on the steering
committee from 2008 until 2013, and I still lurk on the steering
mailing list, and I occasionally use the digital equivalent of a
plunger on our email system (since I originally set it up back in
2009).

Back then, we met at the Red Hat building on NCSU Centennial Campus,
and the meetings were very widely attended. Our January 2013 meeting
had a whopping 130 attendees to hear about the new Raspberry Pi.

What's involved with serving on the steering committee?

* Find speakers - just keep your eyes and ears open whenever you
encounter someone who is working on something interesting.

* Organize meetings - just take care of the mechanics of arranging
a room and some food/snacks and whatever else is needed.

* Figure out what kind of compute resources the LUG needs: email
or a web page or a meetup.com group or Google groups or LinkedIn
or whatever.

* Some administrative stuff - bank accounts, organizing documents
and sometimes, even tax forms.

* Most important - represent the LUG, just CARE enough to show up

After serving on the steering committee for five years, I was
surprised at how many times I would show up somewhere and people
would know me by name, just because I had introduced speakers at
the start of the meetings.

Overall, it's a pretty good gig (even if the pay is lousy).

I hope to see you in the new wave of leadership of the LUG.
