Greetings, fellow TriLUG members and various mailing list lurkers. I'm Cristóbal Palmer, a former Steering Committee member and current member of the Carrboro Town Council in lovely Carrboro, NC. My time on the SC overlapped with Alan's, and I concur with Alan's assessment.

I won't claim that there was any direct or causal link between my stepping up to be on the SC and (years later) my winning a seat on my Town Council, but I will say that serving your community will challenge you, prompt you to grow in ways you didn't expect, and bring you (non-monetary) rewards such as a broader and more resilient connection to your community that can bring you joy that is remarkably sustaining.

I hope you'll take on the challenge of personal and community growth associated with leading your LUG, and if you do step up, I thank you for being willing to shoulder that burden.
