Thanks for response.

Two principle problems right now.  Unsure whether they might be from the 
same cause.  My recall is that they did not show up at the same time.
1> Clicking a link in email opens a new tab in my open Firefox, but it 
does not display Firefox.  It remains on the Thunderbird screen.
2> All the security preferences are lost when Thunderbird is restarted.  
I have to reset all of them.

Ubuntu 24.04.2 with Adblock Plus, Firefox 140.02 snap, Thunderbird 
128.11.0esr(64 bit)

I have researched the internet and examined some of the advanced 
preferences.
     > for #1 I have tried changing 
network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http and ....httpsto no avail
     > for   #2 I have found nothing useful.

I can get and forward any more data that might be needed.  Any pointers 
or advice will be most appreciated
