sorry for coming into this late, and feel free to ignore/correct me,
but in my experience vnc servers are 5900, 5901, etc (for :0, :1, etc)
for their main data port and 5800, 5801, etc for their tiny web server
that feeds the viewing applet.  This not the case with Xvnc?
