'Matrix Reloaded' Sets Opening Day Record

  LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "The Matrix Reloaded," the movie  produced by  
AOL Time Warner's Warner Bros. studio, raked in a  record $42.5 million  
at domestic box offices in its first day,  box office watchers said on  
Friday.

As far as records go, "Matrix Reloaded" -- which reteams Keanu Reeves,  
Laurence Fishburne and Carrie-Anne Moss with a cast of new characters,  
including Harold Perrineau, Jada Pinkett Smith and Monica Bellucci --  
is expected to beat the best R-rated opening, set by "Hannibal" in 2001  
at $58 million; best opening-day gross, set last year by "Spider-Man"  
at $39.4 million in 3,615 locations; and possibly beat the biggest  
opening weekend, also set by "Spider-Man" at $114.8 million for three  
days in May 2002.
