My point wasn't that encryption was bad.

However I think that turning it on and leaving it on is just as
inconvenient to me, a member of a mailing list, than manually
encrypting/securing the mail you wish to send to colleagues/Business
Partners you want to insure the mail for.

This is a user community list. I am interested in the content. I delete
after reading. If it's pertinent or not is what's important to me. Not the
security level or encryption.

I just feel that sometimes people take any chance they get to give
somebody heck here because they use M$ product.

I use them every day. I use them at home too.

Am I a bad person? Do I deserve to be chastised because of this?

I have a Redhat machine at home and at work. I use it for testing all the
time. I do over half of my work on it. It's not the machine that has my
mail on it.

It's just a matter of fact that M$ is part of the game. If you don't want
to use it fine, don't use it. But don't give me Cr at p because I do.

While I desperately believe that I shouldn't get involved here, I feel
that I need to answer this, because I'm a believer in omnipresent
cryptography.

(Although you'll not that due to a rash of forgetfulness, I don't have
my keyring on me today. Note the irony)

PGP (or GPG as used by most Linux users) is a "Tool for secure
communication and data storage"

The PGP keys and signatures you see are ways to verify that an e-mail
came from the person that it came from, and that it hasn't been modified
in transit.

If you have questions about using it, I suggest the FAQ,

Or for more in depth info, check out the rest of hte documentation,
including some really good guides and howtos.
