I have to support David on this one.  I have also run into machines ( if
I remember a PII 400 ) that would not boot from a disk that was "too
big."  I put an old, smaller, drive into the machine, marked it as the
boot disk, and hey presto!

Once Linux is up, the big drive gives no problems.
