I've been using Time-Warner's Digital Phone service for about 6 months
now and am quite happy with it. It's about a $12/month savings for me
compared to the old traditional Bell South + AT&T long distance setup I
had for many years prior. We didn't make many long-distance calls though
- maybe once a month to my wife's family in New Bern.
I haven't tried any of the other services so I can't compare. Since I'm
on Road Runner I like having my ISP, phone and cable TV all on one bill
that never changes. TW's phone service also played nice with my home
alarm from CPI and works on all the jacks in my house.
If I wasn't as lazy as I am I might check out AT&T's CallVantage VoIP
program. It's cheaper and has some really neat features that TW doesn't
like automatically forwarding to cell phones, etc. I don't know how well
it works but it looks good on paper.
You can read about it here:

Good luck with it,
Ken
