A friend and I wrote a BASIC program that transferred files
between two Atari 800's connected back-to-back through a
special cable made out of splicing two joystick cables
together.

We managed to get 11 bits per second throughput!

That was before I switched to programming in "Action!"
(a C-like language that was pretty fast for its time).
