There has forever been a "cable modem" charge on my bill but its never
been more than $1.5 a month. I will admit that several times over the
last couple years I have considered the purchase of a cable modem, but
at the time the DOCSIS 3.0 equipment was landing. What was available
had large price tags on it, and it all had wireless access points built
in. I needed neither the +$100 price tag, nor the WAP.

I am pleased to see that my choice for a cable modem (the Motorola
SB6121) is WAP free and a reasonable ~$80 plus shipping and handling.
So at $3.95 a month (what this fee is purported to be) it would take
about 20 months to pay for the SB6121.
