Then the problem is at top-management level, and properly requires  
correction from above, not below. Sometimes the approach of, "Let's just  
get this thing solved, rather than following your approved procedure,"  
works, but the problem's guaranteed to recur.

Occasionally a service department is operated as a "profit center" and is  
expected to SELL EXTRA STUFF even if it's not needed. "While we are oiling  
and untangling the bits in your modem, we could install our Extra Special  
Super Deluxe Firewall Catastrophe Detector for only $399.95." Sort of like  
auto repair. There wasn't any hint of that, was there?
