[TriLUG] Childproofing

Whitelisting is safer but it is laborious as children need more access for
research and for play. Some of the IP's needed are in a range since they
are cloud based and they might change frequently.

I also use dansguardian but on a spare laptop acting as a wireless bridge.
I'm pretty much counting on nobody plugging in directly and so far that's
worked pretty well since plugging in would mean getting off the couch or
finding an available Cat5 cable.

The child was a little alarmed when I mentioned a site he had visited and
he said "how did you know that?" I didn't tell him since I'd rather he
just know that we're watching.

My mother didn't want me to watch Speed Racer because it was "too
violent". On seeing it again I know she just couldn't stand to know my
brain was rotting one room over and she was doing nothing about it. I was
determined and so was she so the knobs were removed from the television
(remember knobs?) so I learned how to use pliers. Then they removed the
plug so I learned about electricity.

Bad TV shows made me the engineer I am today. Our efforts are to be
applauded but maybe for unintended reasons.
