I use XFCE with multiple displays.  How do you define "primary"?  Panels 
can individually be assigned to a particular display (getting the 
taskbar in the right place on Windows is what I usually think about when 
talking about "primary" display).  What are your other "primary display" 
concerns?

In my case, the only other concern is making sure the screens' logical 
positioning matches their physical positioning, and xrandr takes care of 
that.
