It's likely that the contractor was running other anti-virus software on his 
laptop. He was working in a secure environment after all. Why didn't the other 
anti-virus software reveal to the world the malware on his laptop?

o it didn't pick it up. Maybe it's not very good, or maybe it was told to ignore 
this particular malware.

o they found it but didn't tell the world.

We don't know what happened there, but it doesn't speak well about the 
anti-virus software from the free world.

It's clear that the outed malware was not subject to good opsec and that's the 
real problem here. The current actions taken agains Kaspersky are just shooting 
the messenger. With the other anti-virus vendors missing out on Stuxnet and this 
particular piece of malware, the world is less safe if Kaspersky is forced to 
lay off the good workers it has now.
