[TriLUG] How to get to text terminal when Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't work?

One question that has been bothering me all along is: do you not have a
Terminal ( XTerm, etc. ) application in your GUI?

If you do, then you can issue any of these commands to switch to console
mode, and, when needed, switch back to the GUI.
