[TriLUG] Distro choice for desktop

Depending on what desktop you like, I like KDE personally, there is xubuntu.

I agree with your assessment below on the distributions. The problem I have with Mint is that they were insecure with their repositories and got compromised once as a result. Fool me once, sort of thing.

I tried Debian once and the slew of updates and changes drove me nuts and I think it was the stable version.

I have also tried, and really liked, Arch, which is probably my favorite. Recently, I’ve been on a Gentoo kick, but it’s not for the faint of heart, but it will let you customize down to a T. The advantage over an ubuntu would be that you don’t need to compile the applications to support all manner of environments, e.g. not using gnome, don’t include the support and libraries for it.
