[TriLUG] recommendations for on-line Linux VM

Now I very opinionated about this. Worked in the web hosting industry
for a bit.

One big question is, will you be hosting email on the the VPS/VM?

If yes, it narrows down who you can use. Digital Ocean, OVH, and
Hetzner don't have healthy IP reputations.

Linode works well, but does have some bad IPs too. It is a roll of the
dice as to how great the IP you will get.

If you will never run a mail server from it, I still caution you from
using OVH, Hetzner, and Digital Ocean. Their abuse staff seems to be
backed up and it makes for a bad network citizen. Linode, Vultr, and
ARP Networks all make good VPS/VMs for general use.

Now I have two bare metal servers that I section up into VPSes, using
Proxmox. Those two are through Wholesale Internet/Nocix. Been happy
with them, but it is a bit different than what you are asking for.

Only been here since July, but was looking into renting half a rack
putting a few servers in it. I haven't shopped a lot, but looking at
$600-800 from TierPoint. Anyone interested in going in on half a rack?

I could go on more, but I am tired of typing.

Feel free to email me if you want to discuss off list...or argue on
list, I don't care.

Thank you,
Scott Blaydes
