A while ago, this was not seen as a viable option, likely because the ISP 
blocked ports, also the bandwidth was low in the upload direction. 
According to David Both, the port problem is gone, and there's plenty of 
bandwidth now. There was also the problem of exposing ports at home and 
having someone get in. However disks (for backup) are cheap and I can 
always restore. I know more about security now than I did then, but then 
so do my attackers.

At the moment I'm thinking about a VM on the internet and a VM backup at 
home.
